GST

Are you ready for GST?

As for us, we are more than ready. We had bought the above cash register, not one but three. My cashiers have already got accustomed to it. But it has yet to be implemented. At the left side of the machine, there is a slot for a memory card whereby every transaction will be recorded.

Waiting for 1 April to come. On that day, our agent will come and show us what actually happens when the memory card is intact.

By the way, we don't use any software. The cash register is GST compliant whereby the keys are categorised into taxable and non-taxable. We categorised our items into groups such as HOUSEHOLD for household items, CANNED/BOTTLED food, CHINESE HERBS, SWEET/CHOC, FROZEN FOOD etc.

The non-rated items are keyed on the right side of the key board such as RICE, EGGS, SUGAR, SALT, COOKING OIL, INFANT MILK, BREAD, FLOUR, MEDICINE, GROCERIES, and BIHUN.

Under GROCERIES, certain items are not taxable such as BABA's and our self packed stuff. Under MEDICINE, few items such as Panadol, creobic cream, calamine lotion, weng heng tablet etc.

I can forsee some confusion once it's implemented. Customers are bound to ask lots of questions. At present, we try to explain to those who are still blurry about it.

Way to go...

    1. It is a little confusing to most people but things will be clear once implemented.
Only infant milk up to 1 year old is zero-rated.

  2. You are always WENNderful and ready! Other shops are not ready and some even closed down to blame the GST. This puzzled and confused me too.

How about put pink stickers on the non GST items? That will boost sales!

    1. Eh, I agree wor, good idea.. Put pink sticker to distinguish.. But to be honest, with or without GST, I think the owner already increase all the price already.. Like my office cafe, everything increase liao.. Kuih increase 10 cents for example..

    2. We use yellow stickers to differentiate them. Some retailers increase the prices as they merged in the 6% tax.

  3. I also confused on which is to be charged 6% and taxable.

Good thing that baby milk is exempted. Already very expensive without the 6%

  4. Really don't know what will happen starting 1st April, life will be more difficult? Hur hur~

    1. Indeed difficult for some people as 6% is considered a lot.

  5. Oh dear.. sure a lot of things to separate out when paying... hope all will run smoothly!

    1. No need to separate as the cash register is programmed to charge accordingly.

    1. It's confusing for customers as they don't know how it works. Anyway, things will get better as they become more knowledgeable about it.

  7. It will be sad for you customers when they have to pay 6% more for their stuff! Hopefully your new cash registers can figure out what is taxable and what is not!

    1. Indeed bad as customers need to pay the 6% tax. But what can be done. We have to follow the rules.

  8. I am still blurry about it. Is it true that companies earning less than RM500k gross do not need to register for GST? So if I buy something from these companies, then no need to pay GST?

    1. You are right. But some companies earning less have registered too.
